On February 9, 1945, Weimar experienced the most devastating air raid on the city during the Second World War. While the attack primarily targeted the armaments industry, bombs also struck the city centre, leaving widespread destruction in their wake. Among the many people killed were Weimar residents, forced labourers, and prisoners from the Buchenwald concentration camp.
Led by Axel Stefek, the city walk “Bombs, Destruction, Death: Traces of Nazi Rule in Weimar’s City Centre” followed the traces of this day through Weimar, revealing how the consequences of war and National Socialist rule remain inscribed in the city’s urban landscape.
