Archive of the Project “The 1926 Party Congress”

What happened when the NSDAP held its first nationwide party congress in Weimar in July 1926? And what does this event have to do with Weimar today?

The archive of the project “The 1926 Party Congress – A Parodic Re-enactment” invites visitors to engage interactively and from different perspectives with this historical event, the traces it has left behind, and its significance for the present.

Since July 18, 2026, an archive housed in the spaces of Stockwerk e. V. on the grounds of Weimar’s E-Werk has brought together historical documents from the Weimar City Archives with the artistic and satirical interventions of the project’s action day on July 4, 2026. Historical texts and images relating to the 1926 NSDAP party congress encounter documentation, recordings, videos, and artistic works created a hundred years later, approaching the historical event from the perspective of the present.

Rather than presenting itself as a closed historical documentation, the archive is conceived as a space for questioning and making connections. Visitors are invited to draw their own connections and to ask how political events are remembered, how history is told and passed on, and which perspectives become visible in the process—or remain unseen.

Historical sources and contemporary artistic responses thus enter into dialogue: between document and interpretation, memory and staging, past and present. The events of 1926 are approached not as a closed chapter of history, but as a point of departure for asking what traces political spectacle, propaganda, belonging, and exclusion continue to leave behind today.
